I have been involved in challenges my entire live. I was raised in the Bronx, New York
and at the age of ten moved to Peekskill, NY. My father worked two jobs as a railroad employee for over 50 years and also as a night waiter at the famous Waldorf Astoria on Park Avenue in New York City.
I started working at the age of 14 because my dad did not want us to roam the streets and get into trouble as the 60’s and 70’s were ripe for falling into drugs and the wrong crowd.
My first job was at Hardee’s flipping burgers for $2.00 an hour and also worked as a banquet waiter with my dad at private clubs in New Rochelle, NY on the weekends. At the age of 17 I was hired as a Car Inspector for Con Rail. Working the graveyard shift I was also attending High School and playing on the Varsity basketball team. One day I fell asleep in class and my teacher asked my why I was so tired and when I explained he couldn’t believe it. He asked me what I was making as a RR employee and when I told him he could not believe his ears as I was making more than him at the time.
My love was always basketball and I never let that die in my heart. It burned and still burns today. After graduating High school I was employed on the RR for 7 years. The RR position was extremely boring and I channeled my energies into sports. In the early 80’s I ran a marathon, fought in the Golden Gloves and became a find tuned athlete and continued my basketball pursuits. A coach noticed me one day and he asked me to attend college. Two weeks later I quit the RR and started college and lived my dream of playing college basketball at the age of 23.
My story continues into the corporate world as a telecommunications salesman and now an entrepreneur, father, basketball coach and speaker.
