
Christie Rampone
Christie Rampone played for the United States Women's National team as a defender from 1997-2015. She won two World Cups in 1999 & 2015 and three Olympic gold medals in 2004, 2008 & 2012. A former captain, Rampone amassed 311 caps during her career and, at the time of her retirement, was ranked 2nd all-time, female or male, for most number of caps (trailing only Kristine Lilly).
Outside of international play, Rampone competed in two pro leagues, the Women's United Soccer Association from 2001-2003 and Women's Professional Soccer from 2009-2011. She was named the WPS Sportswoman of the Year in 2009. Rampone also spent time playing in the W-League in 1997-1998.
Rampone was raised in Point Pleasant, New Jersey and graduated from Point Pleasant Boro High School, where she lettered in hockey, basketball, soccer and track & field. She led her school's conference in scoring in three sports, the first female in New Jersey state history to accomplish the feat. She played collegiately at Monmouth University, where she played soccer, lacrosse and basketball. In 2005, Monmouth presented Rampone with an honorary degree and, in 2007, she was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame. In honor of her gold medal at the 2008 Summer Games, Monmouth honored Rampone with the declaration of Christie Rampone Day on October 5, 2008.
