Melisa particularly enjoys working with new and young farmers and those producers involved in farm direct marketing. Her work in farm direct agriculture began as an intern with Alberta Agriculture's Ag tourism initiative. Over time Melisa has worked for the Alberta Farmers Market Association, vended in farmers markets, worked on farms as well as at universities, as a research assistant.
Melisa completed a Master's of Science degree focused on sustainable agriculture, and local food systems at the University of Montana, USA. Recently she has worked as a market manager. Her most current work with Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development included creating and implementing several training programs to assist farmers involved, or interested in Community Supported Agriculture. In the future, Melisa would like to work more thoroughly on mentorship programs to support peer-to-peer learning, and to strengthen producer networks.
