Extended Bio for R. Shamar

Rontavis Shamar Walker was born July 30, 1983 in Thomaston Georgia to Mary Ann Fagan and Dexter Walker. Born out of wedlock and into sin Shamar's life started out rocky and destitute. At the age of 3 his mother married Daniel Fagan, a man that would later become a great inspiration and example to Shamar of how to live holy and how to live right. Shamar's life became a perpetual dichotomy that shaped his vision and ideologies. He watched one father live a life of crime, but amass large sums of money, while he watched the other work hard and make legitimate money that just made ends meet. He went back and forth between Thomaston Georgia where he witnessed impoverished individuals with great talent and potential squander their lives because they lacked understanding and opportunities and the suburbs of Atlanta Georgia where he watched less talented individuals succeed simply because of their sense of drive and passion.

At the age of 9 Shamar watched from his bedroom window in the low income apartments in which he dwelled.  From that window he witnessed drug dealers hand out money and purchase ice cream for the neighborhood kids.  He then made a vow that he would be that guy one day, but he would do it legally.  This started a journey of entrepreneurship that developed from selling school supplies and helping his family save money, to selling candy and key chains.  The candy business was his first real taste of success when Shamar began making $300-400 a week selling candy in several schools in his county and employing his friends helping them to make money as well.  This experience of helping others make money pushed him even more. He later entered the Cleaning Business, then the restaurant business where he became used to the idea of hosting events to drive sales.  This sparked the idea of jumping on the hip-hop craze and hosting parties and rap battles.  From there Shamar started a talent agency so that he could recruit and promote the great talent around him, but this was not his calling. All of it came to a screeching halt as he accepted a call to the ministry.

Shamar had been active in the ministry since 16 as a teacher and counselor, but at the age of 20 he received his license to preach the Christian Gospel. He started to develop and hone in on his oratorical ability and found that he deeply enjoyed inspiring people through the spoken, then written word.  He left Georgia State University where he was studying Finance and became a student of Theology.  He received a Bachelor's in Theology in 2004.  He then went on to write such books as "On Track, to the Kingdom," a book about transitioning from the four walls of the church to the Kingdom in order to make an impact and lasting imprint on the world and "Your Best Day Today," a daily devotional that encourages the reader through self discovery to live their best day everyday.  After preaching and speaking at schools and universities he began to develop what he has coined "The Motivational Ministry," and establish himself as "The Minister of Motivation."  He recorded "One Day at a Time," a CD about staying positive in negative times.  He then recorded "Passion 101: When They See Your Passion, They'll Pay You," a CD about displaying your passion and living in your purpose in an effort to garner the support of those around you so that your passion can start paying your bills.

Shamar went on to become R. Shamar, the author, speaker and entrepreneur. He birthed Better Way Ministries in order to tell the world "There is a Better Way to Live, Love and Do Business." He currently serves as the overseer of Better Way Ministries and the Youth Pastor of New Pleasant Grove under his father Pastor Daniel Fagan and he is the CEO of R. Shamar Presents a marketing and promotions company. He believes that all people have the potential to succeed if they can harness the power of passion and purpose and allow it to drive them into their divine destiny.

            R. Shamar is listed on sites such as iTunes, Napster, Rhapsody and Amazon, but samples of his ministry, books and speaking can be found at his website.
