Kim Denmark
Kim Denmark, of Dayton, Ohio began a spiritual "walk" across America for the less fortunate in 1999 after a series of convictions from the Lord. She feels, "a mandate has been placed on her life to walk for "change", and to serve".
Unemployment. Poverty. Homelessness -Those are the reasons Kim Denmark set out on her journey across America in 1999.Her objective is to complete 50 states, including Alaska, and Hawaii. To date she has "walked" 16 states which include:
Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Florida clocking over 4, 466 miles, and 23 pair of shoes.
Armed with thousands of petitions from America's poor supporting her cause, her hopes are to address the United States Congress regarding the down trodden. She strives to serve as a representative, and a voice of the poor to speak out about homelessness, poverty, jobs, (loss), and housing.
Ultimately, Denmark would like to purchase a "Homeless Hospital", exclusively for homeless and homeless veterans. This facility is available, and vacant in Chicago, Illinois, (Formerly, Lincoln Park/Grant Hospital) and It can hold up to 366 patients. The facility will cater to patients suffering from mental health, alcohol, drugs, and require physiological rehabilitation treatment.
Denmark hopes to address the new president, Congress and the Senate on the need for immediate action to reduce homelessness and poverty across the country. "My goal is to get the attention of the new administration and apply pressure to show them that America's economic situation needs to be addressed right now. I hope that what I'm doing becomes contagious and spreads like a virus, and people get infected with the desire to help. I want to be the change that other people see."
Former owner of a successful staffing service in Dayton, OH. Denmark openly states, "I was really showy, arrogant and nasty. I never gave back. And then I got sick and God gave me a second chance. I had an epiphany and I gave my life to service - to helping others."
Each day, five days per week, Denmark's "walk Across America" begins at 9 a.m. and lasts until 6 p.m. She stops only to eat, sleep or to visit with the homeless at shelters she passes along the way. She averages at least 10 miles per day.
Her food and lodgings are all acquired through contributions. A minivan that follows her for security as she treks across the country was donated by Atlanta businessman Mike Patton and is driven by volunteers who are drawn to her cause along the way. Longview RV Super Center, of Tampa Florida, (Fran and Frank Roberts) recently donated a Recreational Vehicle that will serve as a home on the road as well as a Mobile Rescue & Information unit for the remaining portion of her journey.
Kim captivates her audiences with details about her journey; the lessons she has learned, lives she has changed, and impact she has on other Americans who are determined to get their voice heard. She is tenacious, full of energy and a powerful speaker that is changing America's views on poverty literally one step at a time. She is best suited for events and panel discussion that relate to economic change, inspirational messages, influential women, and spirituality.
