The Gauthier-St. Martin Endowed Chair in Environmental Law at Loyola University New Orleans School of Law, he is in addition the chair of the environmental section of the Association of American Law Schools, contributing editor for ABA's The Urban Lawyer (the nation's leading law journal on state and local government issues), and a board member and research scholar with the Center for Progressive Regulation in Washington, DC. He has been a visiting professor at Beijing University School of Law (China), Aarhus University Faculty of Law (Denmark), and Seattle University School of Law, and he represented the University of Missouri's Center for the City as a "major delegate" at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Verchick has authored three books covering issues including natural disaster law and policy, land use and environmental law, threats posed by climate change, human and civil rights, and women's rights spanning a wide range of related concerns. His books are Facing Catastrophe: Environmental Action for a Post-Katrina World; Disaster Law and Policy; and Feminist Legal Theory: A Primer.

An accomplished speaker, Verchick taught public speaking at Stanford and has been repeatedly voted "most inspiring" and "most outstanding" by students. He has spoken throughout the United States as well as in China, South Africa, Austria, Norway, Denmark and Sweden.

Presentation topics include environmental justice (race, poverty, gender, civil rights and the environment), pollution and toxics, climate change and weather disasters, environmental regulation, land use law, and women and sustainability.
