MD, USBofta Yimam is an Emmy® Award-Winning Journalist, Washington D.C. News Correspondent, Former TV Anchor, Media Personality, International Speaker and Executive Coach.
In 2019, Bofta was honored to receive the Asian-African Chamber of Commerce & Industry International Leadership award and the Black Business Review's Top 40 Under 40 Professionals award.
She has been honored for her work nearly every year in her journalism career, including a Regional Emmy® award and the prestigious Edward R. Murrow award. Bofta is proud to be a self-made woman who paid her own way through college and also, the first Ethiopian-American newscaster to receive an Emmy for her work.
For more than a decade, she's reported live on the morning and evening news for TV affiliates around the country, including CBS and ABC. In 2013, she won a Midsouth Regional Emmy® for excellence in "Continuing Coverage." One year later, she received the Pennsylvania AP Broadcasters Association award for Outstanding Investigative Report. Throughout her career, Bofta has received a variety of Emmy nominations, including: light feature, historical/cultural special report, sports feature, on-camera talent specialty assignment and investigative series. She most recently worked as a morning Anchor and Reporter for the ABC affiliate in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Today, Bofta is a CEO, Coach and Speaker. She mixes high energy storytelling and unique content to empower audiences around the globe. From teenage depression and poverty to an award-winning broadcasting career to building a successful business from scratch, she now inspires others that anything is possible if you're willing to dig deep, build your confidence and communicate your power. She also believes adversity has its advantages and there's tremendous impact when people choose to own — and share— their story.
As a coach, Bofta works to help change agents and industry transformers craft and syndicate their compelling signature story so they can deeply connect with their audience, establish authority, create impact and transformation from the stage and on screen... while reducing the fear and anxiety of sharing their story to a group.
Using her decade of media experience, LIVE TV Anchoring, award-winning investigations, speaking engagements as well as hosting her signature Speak & Influence communication workshops, Bofta helps her clients achieve a powerful signature story so they can share "on demand" while replacing their fear of validation with incredible confidence.
As a workshop facilitator for corporate training, you can count on Bofta to create highly customized, interactive, entertaining and deeply substantive content. Previous corporate engagements include Vistage Worldwide, the African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania, the Pittsburgh Business Group On Health and the National Association of Black Journalists Baltimore Chapter. She's frequently tapped as a guest speaker on podcasts and offers her own weekly motivational segment, Rise and Shine With Bofta Yimam, available to listeners worldwide through Urban Media Today radio.
Bofta is a career and life mentor with the London-based organization, Global Thinkers Mentors Program. The mentors program is designed to advance women's empowerment and youth development around the world.
When she's not on-air or coaching, Bofta is plotting her next bucket list destination. She's swum with dolphins in Mexico, climbed a mountain (not planned) to reach a remote Ethiopian monastery, jumped off a 35-foot-high Jamaican cliff and backpacked twice in Europe.
She recently traveled to Cuba with nine other journalists for independent reporting projects covering race and other African diaspora issues.
