Darrell James

Top College Recruiting Expert, Former Collegiate Athlete, Author of "Campus to Corporate America-c2ca"

In a recovering economy and competitive job market, Darrell James, a veteran corporate recruiter and founding partner of the executive search firm, James & Jordan, knows what companies are looking for in interns and full time college hires.  He is also a former collegiate athlete.  With all of those experiences, James is telling college students and student athletes what they need to do to become top job candidates and land their dream job - before graduation!

James has the attention of a broad audience who wants to hear his message. Parents, university administrators, student affairs and career services departments, as well as student associations, athletic departments, sororities and fraternal organizations are listening.

Through his program "Campus to Corporate America." James advises college students and student athletes about the critical steps in creating a personal brand that is attractive to employers seeking to hire college students.  James' campus seminars cover topics such as careers for the future, networking, resume writing, behavioral interview skills, job fair strategies, and key skills that all employers are looking for in college students.  Although he is not a resume writer, he tells audiences the things that recruiters are looking for in a resume.  "For example, at a job fair, what's important is that you maximize the number of interviews you can gain from your desired list of potential companies to work for.  There are things that you can do to tweak your resume and tailor your elevator speech to get those interviews."

His session on how to have immediate job success is targeted to students who are preparing for internships, co-ops or other entry-level jobs after college.  "Teaching people how to be a 'star' in an organization is appealing to students but also to companies that might bring in a new group of employees," James says. "They want their people to be excited about their organization, and the new hires want to be successful, so it's a win-win for both parties."

James' "boot camp" combines the messages in both seminars but drills deeper into topics covering resume writing, mock interviews, creating elevator speeches and other simulations.

To supplement the seminars and boot camp, James' is publishing his first book, Campus to Corporate America: A College Student's Guide to Landing Their Dream Internship and Entry-Level Job - Before Graduation, and a home study course,Landing Your Dream Job and Becoming a Star Performer.  Both will be released in early Fall 2011.

Currently, Darrell is one of the founding members of James & Jordan, an Executive and Management Search Firm based in Sugar Land, TX. He is actively involved in several professional organizations, including: Society of Human Resource Management/HRHouston; National Black MBA; and National Association of African Americans in Human Resources (NAAAHR). Darrell graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Grand Canyon University while on a basketball scholarship, and has a M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration from Arizona State University

James' schedule is filling quickly and schools that would like for him to speak to their students should contact him as soon as possible for the best available dates.
